Queues and chunked jobs with idempotent retries, so a failed step recovers instead of starting over.
MySQL and Redis, slow queries made fast, and encryption at rest that people can still search.
Work
Four problems from my current role at SOCi: what was needed, what I built, and why it mattered.
The need. A survey product has to feel instant for every respondent, including when a public survey suddenly gets a lot of traffic.
What I built. I rewrote it from the ground up for speed, and made public survey pages load from cache at the edge.
Why it mattered. Respondents get fast pages, and big traffic spikes are handled smoothly.
The need. Data arrives from a growing list of external partners, and each one should be quick to add.
What I built. A config-driven way to bring in partner data: adding a partner is mostly configuration, and large imports recover on their own when something fails.
Why it mattered. New partners go live faster, with less code to maintain for each one.
The need. Customer contact data is personal information that should be encrypted at rest, but people still need to search it.
What I built. Searchable encryption for contact data: records stay encrypted in storage and search keeps working.
Why it mattered. Personal data is protected at rest without taking an everyday feature away from users.
The need. LLM features have to earn trust before they are allowed to act on their own.
What I built. Safety checks around LLM features: PII redaction, and evals that have to pass before anything goes out automatically.
Why it mattered. Automation ships with privacy and quality checks built in, not bolted on later.
